language

After reading the essay,I realized that ,actually, there is a world of difference between the same language that we speak to my peer and to previous generation. Also ,this difference exists not only between generations but also in some other situations.

To begin with, I think the factors differing the same language from generations are some special words and phrases and the different ways of expressing.I can chat with my friends using some popular words and phrases that invented by ourselves and spreaded quickly among my peer. But what will happen when I talking to my parents with these words and phrases? They can hardly understand what am I trying to say, which could be a disaster.

Secondly, the "situation"differs the language into formal form and informal form. We,in daily communication, will not concentrate on the grammar and tense too much.Although, there maybe some serious mistakes in the communication,we can still understand what are we talking about.Just as the "broken" English Mrs.Tan mentioned in the essay, because this does not influence the quality of the dialog to both the speaker and the listener. However, if we are writing a letter or an essay just like this, there might be many aspect that we have to focus on,such as,the grammar mistakes, incorrect sentence structure, wrong tense and so on.Otherwise, these incorrections can easily affect the quality of the reading.Additionally, the situation is a limitation of the using of vocabulary. If we use some words only appear in literature into a nomal dialog,it will sounds strange.Similarly,if we put slangs that we ever use in daily communication into a formal eaast, what the result could be?

From the article written by Mrs.Tan,I can draw a conclusion that language is a tool of communication, meanwhile , it is a kind of art.
