People in my culture do not show emotions easily and quickly. Here are some examples to support my view.
To begin with, we Chinese will not show the emotions to others when we just met each other.Instead, we will pick up a topic that we have in common to keep the talk going on.Just take myself for instance,on the orientation,I met a girl whose major is Finance. She is a Chinese, and after a brief self-introduction,we both surprisingly noticed that we ever had studied in the same English school, but we never encountered each other before. So we begun to talk something about our English school .After few sentences, we changed topic from English school to a film once showed in class. And then ,the talk went on further and further.I felt quite well when I talked with her.Since this was the first time we met each other,we both did not show emotions. This is a normal situation. As if we showed our emotions directly, this talk might be a strange talk in other Chinese students' eyes.Maybe somebody will says that we hid our emotions, both sorrows and joys.Frankly speaking, we did.In my culture,we want to know a person gradully just by our own eyes.So we'd better not take our emotions out at the first time we met each other.
However,"we do not show at first time we met",does not mean that we never show our emotions. With the communication going deeper and further ,we became real "old-friends ".At that time we may show our emotions without any concern. In our culture,we do some actings at the first time,we met each other.Yes,we hide our emotions to keep the talk going on,to find out an oppotunity to show our emotions at a certain time.
To sum up,in our culture,we are not demostrative in a situantion where we are not familiar to ,nevertheless,we do show our emotions.
